goal setting: success secret #3

check in

If you set a goal for yourself a month ago or more, now may be a great time to “check in” and see how you are doing. Measure your progress in a way appropriate to your goal; for example, if you are looking to slim down and lose fat, take new circumference measurements and have your body fat % re-tested. If your goal is to save money for a trip or new car, check your savings account total. Whatever your goal, there is always a way to measure your progress, so check your current status and then ask yourself:

  1. How am I doing? Is this where I thought I’d be at this point in time? Am I ahead, behind, or right on track according to the schedule I set for myself?
  2. Was the time line I set initially realistic for the size of my goal?
  3. What can I do to help my progress? What are the daily choices I can make to get me closer to achieving my goal? The weekly choices? The monthly choices?
  4. Do I need more help to achieve my goals? A personal trainer, a financial adviser? Or my friends and family to be better allies?
Remember that variation is key, so don’t throw all your eggs in one basket. Change it up, do what you love, and you may find new solutions for getting what you want.
